Anyone else keep waking up just to go pee during the night?

Last night was actually one of those rare nights I slept straight through without waking up to go pee. Usually, I go to sleep around 9pm and wake up by 4am, but I almost always wake up once or twice to pee after about 3 or 4 hours. I’m guilty of drinking water within an hour of bedtime, but that didn’t seem to affect me last night.

Anyone have advice on how to avoid waking up for a bathroom trip each night?

This happens to a lot of people.

Actually, it’s pretty common for most people, not just you.

Interesting! It’s funny, I never had this problem before my 30s. Wonder if it’s just an age thing.

Haha, yeah, it totally is – trust me on this!

Haha, got it! Thanks!

Try cutting out water about 3–4 hours before bed. That usually helps.

Maybe drink extra fluids before 5pm, and then drink only when you’re really thirsty after that.

How old are you? Just curious if age might be a factor here.

I’m in my late 30s.

Have you considered somehow rewinding time to stay young forever? That’d fix it!

Haha! That would be ideal!

Jokes aside, maybe check out this info – it might be helpful:

There could be something medical going on, so it might be worth talking to a doctor. I’ve found that having an unusual eating schedule helps me – I don’t eat for about 7 hours before bed, which means digestion is done before I go to sleep, so I need less water in the evening. This also helps me manage my weight with intermittent fasting (an 18-hour window each day). I also keep a plastic urinal nearby so I don’t have to fully get up if I still need to pee. Makes falling back asleep easier.

Also, certain foods make me more thirsty than others. For example, I find steak needs more water than something like spaghetti.

If cutting fluids in the evening doesn’t help, maybe a quick check with your doctor could be worth it.

I used to get up 1–3 times a night, but cutting down on sugar before bed has helped me stay asleep.
