Anyone noticed magnesium glycinate making sleep worse?

I just started taking 400mg Magnesium Glycinate with 200mg Magnesium Threonate. It feels like it might be making me wake up earlier than usual and I can’t go back to sleep. Has anyone else experienced this? Most posts I’ve read say it helps with sleep.

Following this to see if others have similar experiences.

I used to have low magnesium levels and taking magnesium glycinate really helped with my sleep at first. But after a year of using it every couple of days, I felt it stopped being effective, so I decided to stop. Had a similar story with B12 supplements too—once my levels were good, I didn’t need it anymore.

I think it makes me wake up in the middle of the night needing to use the bathroom. Does anyone else feel this too?

Yeah, it’s definitely possible. Lithium salts, which are used for certain treatments, can have similar effects on the bladder. Maybe it’s related.

Same thing happened to me. Magnesium glycinate made my mind too active at night and cut my sleep short. Switched to magnesium oxide, 200mg, and now I sleep soundly. Everyone’s body reacts differently, so what works for one might not work for another.

I’ve tried different forms of magnesium and none have worked well for me. I often feel worse the day after taking it.

Totally. I’ve seen posts about this and it matches my experience too. Glycinate, threonate, large doses of inositol, ashwagandha, l-theanine, and melatonin—while they seem helpful for many, they actually mess up my sleep.
