I was just wondering if there’s any connection. If there is, do you think keeping your phone out of the bedroom would help reduce smartphone use and improve sleep and mornings?
Yes, using a smartphone as an alarm can encourage late-night scrolling, as it keeps the device within easy reach. The bright screen, endless content, and app notifications are highly stimulating, making it hard to resist the temptation to scroll. This behavior disrupts your ability to wind down and delays the onset of sleep by interfering with your natural circadian rhythm.
Using my smartphone alarm makes me stay awake waiting for the alarm. If I use an alarm clock, I don’t have that issue of it not going off like I did with my phone. Dumb iPhone settings.
No
OMG YES! After I got an alarm clock and left my phone in the living room to charge, I’ve never slept better.
If there is, do you think that eliminating phone from the bedroom would decrease smartphone usage and improve sleep/mornings? Multiple studies have shown that this is the case. I like to have it as an alarm, but it’s in another room. That forces me to get out of bed to turn it off. This works better if you also have a real clock in your room to make sure you’re awake when the phone goes off.
