How Can I Avoid Peeing at Night?

I struggle with nighttime urination and the only way to avoid it is by not consuming liquids for 5 hours before bed, which leaves me feeling dizzy and thirsty. I often wake up once or twice a night to pee and it takes me a while to fall back asleep. Are there any tips to help reduce this?

Make sure you’re fully emptying your bladder before bed. Double-voiding can help. Also, watch out for foods and drinks that act as diuretics, like caffeine and alcohol.

What is double-voiding?

@Zuri
It means peeing two times during one trip to the toilet.

Should I do this before bed? How long should I wait between peeing?

Double-voiding involves emptying your bladder twice in one visit.

@Arlo
How do you even do that? I thought I empty it fully already.

You could wait a few minutes and try again.

Just remove your bladder.

@Arlo
Walk around a bit after peeing, then sit back down to try again.

I was diagnosed with an overactive bladder. It gets worse with age, and managing it can be expensive.

Is it an autoimmune issue? I’m being tested for a few.

The doctor mentioned diabetes and sleep apnea as common reasons for frequent urination.

Have you considered mouth taping? It promotes nasal breathing, which can help reduce nighttime urination.

How old are you? Any known issues?

I’m 18 and healthy, no real issues.

You could have pelvic floor problems. Do you feel the need to pee often during the day?

@Teal
Sometimes, yes.

Try Kegel exercises. Also, consider if the cold weather makes you need to pee more.

If only it were that easy!
