If I don’t set an alarm, I end up sleeping over 10 hours most nights. I’m trying to figure out if I might be a ‘long sleeper’ or if my body is just making up for sleep debt.
On average, I don’t feel great unless I get at least 9 hours, but I’m curious how much sleep other people naturally get without alarms.
It depends. I average around 10 hours, but if I’ve been well-rested recently, it can drop to 7-8 hours. Last weekend I slept for 13 hours! That’s pretty rare, though—it’s usually a mix of cold weather and being extra tired.

I’m like clockwork: 8 and a half hours almost every time.
If I go to bed at midnight, I wake up at 8:30 AM. Go to bed at 4 AM? I’ll wake up at 12:30 PM. My body has its own internal alarm.
Wow, must be nice to have the option to sleep whenever you want. Some of us barely manage a few hours because of work or other responsibilities. You’re lucky!
If I let myself sleep naturally, it’s often over 12 hours. The whole ‘8 hours of sleep’ thing doesn’t work for everyone. People with chronic illness, neurodivergence, or energy-draining jobs often need way more. The idea that some people sleep ‘too much’ feels like a made-up concept to guilt us into working more.
I usually wake up before my alarm and just stay in bed scrolling on my phone until the last one goes off. I think I naturally sleep about 7 hours unless I’m particularly exhausted. Still, I savor the time in bed even if I’m not asleep!
