I can’t seem to sleep for more than 8 hours, despite positive changes

This week, I made big changes to my routine to try to improve my sleep:

  • Daily exercise
  • Night magnesium supplement (100 mg magnesium + 3 mg melatonin)
  • Meditation in the morning and evening
  • Deep stretching sessions
  • Going to bed earlier (around 11 PM)

For three nights straight, I’ve been getting only 5-6 hours of sleep. Despite this, I wake up feeling energetic and not tired at all. Am I doing something wrong, or does my body simply not need 8 hours of sleep? I’d appreciate some insights.

If your routine changes don’t feel satisfying or peaceful, try experimenting with different habits. Maybe switch meditation for journaling or a relaxing hobby. It’s about what makes you feel calm and content at the end of the day.

Honestly, I’ve been feeling really happy lately, which is rare given my history of depression. I feel great in the mornings, but I still wake up at 4 AM for no reason. Maybe it’s just a phase?

The whole ‘8 hours of sleep’ thing is just a guideline. Some people need more, and some need less. If you feel fine and rested, you’re probably okay.

If you’re not feeling tired or suffering from the reduced sleep, then it’s probably not an issue. I had a friend in high school who only needed 5 hours of sleep and was perfectly fine. Everyone’s different.

You’re doing all the right things. Your body might just be adjusting to the new routine. Keep at it, and don’t stress about hitting exactly 8 hours. Everyone has different needs.

It might be worth consulting a sleep physician and getting checked for conditions like sleep apnea or UARS, just in case.

Don’t overthink it. My natural sleep pattern is 5-6 hours, and I’ve always been fine. If you’re not tired and feel good, just go with it.

The ‘8 hours’ idea is outdated. Sleep needs vary, and they can change over time. If 6 hours feels right for you, then go with it!

Meditation is great for energy. Keep it up; it has so many benefits beyond sleep.

Not everyone needs 8 hours. If you feel rested, you’re probably fine. Maybe try a tracker to see if your routine has patterns tied to your daily activities.

By the way, 11 PM might still be late. I’m in bed by 9:30 PM and up by 6 AM, and that works well for me.

If you wake up feeling good, that might just be the amount of sleep your body needs. Everyone’s different.

Try keeping your room cold and use a weighted blanket. It helps me a lot with staying asleep.

Reduce phone usage before bed and use mild detergent for your bedding. Small changes can make a big difference.
