I had a very busy work week and pulled two all-nighters. On Friday morning around 3 a.m., I finished all my work, had some dinner, and drank a bit of tequila. I fell asleep around 6 a.m. and ended up sleeping for over 24 hours, only getting up once to pee. I finally woke up around 11 a.m. on Saturday.
I usually never oversleep and have never slept this long before. Normally, I get 7-8 hours of sleep.
Is this a bad sign, or was it just my body catching up after a hectic week?
You probably already know that sleeping for that long isn’t ideal, but it sounds like it was a one-off thing because you were overworked. It’s more important to watch for patterns rather than occasional events.
From 6 a.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Saturday, that’s 29 hours. Not leaving bed for that long and only waking up once to pee is quite unusual and concerning. Since you’re asking, I’m guessing you’re worried about it too.
Were there any drugs, either prescription or recreational, involved in your all-nighters? Uppers, downers, or maybe Adderall?
Sleep deprivation is bad for your health, but it sounds like you were just catching up on all the missed sleep. If you avoid the all-nighters, you probably won’t need 24 hours of sleep again.
But if your job requires it, it seems like you did your best to mitigate the effects.

Did you feel refreshed after that long sleep?
Yeah, I felt pretty good, actually.
Then it probably wasn’t too bad. Sometimes people feel dizzy or get headaches after sleeping that long, but considering the workload you had, it makes sense. Just try not to make a habit of it.
I wouldn’t stress too much over it. Since this was a one-time thing, I wouldn’t be too concerned. You mentioned feeling pretty good afterward, so it sounds like your body was just catching up on rest after a rough week.
If it keeps happening, though, definitely talk to your primary care provider.
