Stomach Sleepers and Morning Congestion

I’ve been a stomach sleeper my whole life, and every morning I wake up with severe congestion. It usually takes me about an hour of blowing my nose before it clears up, and then I’m fine for the rest of the day. I’ve seen an ENT, but they didn’t find any issues. I’m curious if this could be related to sleeping on my stomach.

Have any other stomach sleepers experienced this? If so, did you find any solutions? I’d love to hear your thoughts or advice!

I only have an issue when I’m dealing with allergies or a cold. Have you tried doing a nasal rinse before bed? It might help reduce congestion overnight.

That’s a great idea. I’ll give it a try and see if it helps. Thank you!

I’m also a stomach sleeper and had similar issues. A steroid nasal spray helped a lot. It’s not the addictive kind and is safe for daily use. Ask your doctor about it!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve made an appointment for next month to discuss this with my doctor. Hopefully, they can prescribe something.

I’m not a stomach sleeper, but I’ve been experiencing similar issues lately. Turns out, non-allergic rhinitis caused by hormonal changes might be to blame. It’s worth considering if nothing else explains it.

@Vic
Interesting point! I hadn’t considered that. I’ll bring it up with my doctor. Thanks for sharing!

I love stomach sleeping, but I’ve had sinus issues, too. A sinus rinse, staying hydrated, and sniffing peppermint oil before bed have helped me a lot. Good luck!

Thank you for the tips! I’ll definitely try them out.

Stomach sleeper here. I used to wake up with a stuffy nose, especially in colder climates. Nasal sprays have been a game changer for me. Maybe see if you’re allergic to something in your room, like dust mites?
