Hello
I often find myself waking up after just 4-5 hours of sleep and my thoughts start racing. I’ve tried relaxing music, reading, but it seems like my mind is just gearing up for a panic attack or a bout of worry. I can’t get back to sleep for hours, if at all.
What strategies do you use to cope with this?
I think to myself, ‘Great, I have three more hours to just relax and do nothing,’ and usually, that helps me drift back to sleep.

That sounds helpful! I tend to get overwhelmed thinking about all the tasks I should be doing instead.
@Sam
The trick is realizing there are no expectations on you at that moment. Just enjoy the peace of having nothing to do.

I could get up and start on those tasks, but maybe I shouldn’t.

Do you not have kids? That sounds like a dream!

Thanks, I’ll take a look!
I end up dwelling on past regrets and mistakes.

I try to remind myself that I made the best choices I could at the time with the information I had.
I used to struggle with waking up too, but now I fall back to sleep easily, maybe because I’m more exhausted these days. Perhaps trying to be less concerned about sleep could help.

Maybe I should consider tiring myself out more during the day. Thanks for the suggestion!
So frustrating!

It really is!
I use the Headspace app, it has a feature that helps with getting back to sleep.

I’ll try that, thanks!
I imagine myself in a completely blank space, like the Matrix training program.

Does that technique work for you?
I remind myself that it’s my time to rest and nothing needs to be done right now. Problems can wait until morning.

That’s a really good mindset. I’ll try to remember that.
