The difference between 7.5 and 8.5 hours of sleep is actually kind of scary

People need different amounts, usually 6-8 hours. OP just happens to be on the 8.5 side.

8 hours is perfect for me. That’s when I feel my best in the morning.

Yeah, I get about 6.5 hours on weeknights if things go well.

My job doesn’t allow more than 5 hours at best. I work 6 hours on, 6 hours off half the time, and 4 hours on, 8 off the other half.

I would be thrilled to get over 6 hours!

Sometimes I wake up after just 3 hours. I have to remind myself that even if I don’t feel sleepy, lying in the dark and resting is still beneficial. Sometimes I end up falling back asleep.

Sleep experts actually suggest that if you’re not falling asleep within 20 minutes, you should get out of bed and do something else, like go to another room. That way, your brain associates the bed with sleep, not frustration.

If you’re strict with this habit, it could help you fall asleep faster over time. It might even help you fall asleep in the day if needed, just because your mind associates bed with sleep.

@Shay
That’s a good tip, even if real life doesn’t always work out that way. Here’s to hoping for good ZZZs!

Reading this made me sleepy. Goodnight!

Just woke up after a solid 9 hours. I feel amazing!

So jealous! I should’ve gone to bed hours ago.

You’re lucky to know your perfect sleep amount, OP. I’m still clueless about mine. How did you figure it out?

Years of trial and error, honestly. If I get 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep, it’s usually a great day. Anything less than 8 and I feel awful.

@Bryce
That must’ve taken a lot of experimenting. I wake up groggy whether I get 5, 6, or even 9 hours!

Sounds like something might be disrupting your sleep cycles. Could be worth checking with a sleep specialist.

@Bryce
Same here. I need at least 8 hours to feel halfway decent. I sometimes envy people who can function on 5-6 hours.

@Bryce
I’ve never known anyone over 16 who gets a full 8 hours. Impressive!

Tracking my sleep with a Fitbit helped me figure it out.

I’d be thrilled to get 7.5 hours!

Same, I’d be happy with just 7.

Can’t remember the last time I got 7.5 hours of solid sleep. Wonder if I’d need to train myself to sleep that long!
