REM is concentrated in the latter half of the night, so an extra hour of sleep can feel like a lot more than 60 minutes of rest.
I usually run on 4.5-5.5 hours, and I feel more alert than when I sleep 7-8 hours, but it only works for a few days in a row.

Same here! I can’t sleep more than 4 hours at a time either, but I’m working on it.
Everyone has different sleep needs.
Not true. Science shows most adults need 7-9 hours, with some needing even more. Matthew Walker’s Why We Sleep is a great read if you’re interested in the research.
