The difference between 7.5 and 8.5 hours of sleep is actually kind of scary

REM is concentrated in the latter half of the night, so an extra hour of sleep can feel like a lot more than 60 minutes of rest.

I usually run on 4.5-5.5 hours, and I feel more alert than when I sleep 7-8 hours, but it only works for a few days in a row.

Same here! I can’t sleep more than 4 hours at a time either, but I’m working on it.

Everyone has different sleep needs.

Not true. Science shows most adults need 7-9 hours, with some needing even more. Matthew Walker’s Why We Sleep is a great read if you’re interested in the research.
