In recent weeks, I’ve been falling asleep at midnight, which is an improvement over the 2-3 AM bedtime I had all year. However, I consistently wake up at 5:30 AM feeling refreshed and full of energy, despite no longer sleeping the 8-12 hours I used to when I smoked weed. Since stopping, I’ve never managed more than 5 hours of sleep. Although I feel great and energized in the mornings, I’m concerned I might be missing out on those crucial extra hours of sleep. I avoid sleeping in to prevent a disrupted sleep schedule. Does anyone have similar experiences or advice on adjusting to a new sleep pattern without weed?
Do you feel the need to nap later in the day?

No, I haven’t been napping. Though I do feel sleepier in the late afternoon if I don’t keep up with my water intake.
It sounds like you’re in a good place as long as you’re feeling good. The quality of your wakefulness might be more important than the total hours of sleep.

That’s my thought as well. My main concern is just whether I’m getting enough sleep for long-term health.
I’ve had similar sleep issues while actively smoking. I used to sleep a lot, sometimes too much.

When I smoked, I could sleep through anything and often slept past noon. It wasn’t healthy for me, but quitting has been a major adjustment.
Since stopping weed, I’ve been sleeping at least 6 hours. Try using melatonin or magnesium to stabilize your sleep.

I’m currently using 20mg of melatonin to fall asleep. Maybe adding magnesium could help.
@Madden
Alternating between melatonin and magnesium worked for me. Over time, your sleep should improve.
Weed often increases the amount of sleep. Have you considered that you might naturally need less sleep? Also, stress and anxiety can affect sleep duration. It sounds like you’re handling it well now, though.
@Lennox
I’m not sure what my natural sleep needs were before I started smoking daily. Cutting out weed has reduced my anxiety significantly. The vivid dreams from intense REM sleep might be waking me up, but I’m hopeful it’ll stabilize over time.
Is anyone else here even sleeping?
