Hey! Sooo, in the last few months I’ve had a super high intake of caffeine, I’m talking 500-1500ml of energy drinks a few days a week. I didn’t do it because I think it’s good, but I still did it. And let me tell you… coming from a person who has believed that I can handle caffeine well and still go to sleep, this is no joke. In the last few months I’ve probably skipped like 5-7 nights of sleep simply because I took caffeine (quantity and timing varied, but it was enough to not want to go to sleep). And the weirdest part… There were a couple of days where I would want to sleep A LOT, I’m talking going to lay to bed for a few minutes and fall asleep for full 6-9 hours sleep session, yet, when I intake some energy drink even throughout such a strong sleep deprivation, the desire to sleep melts away. Even after being awake for 40 hours, I could intake energy drink and no longer have desire to go to sleep (no longer feel sleepy). There is this sense of fatigue/tiredness in the eyes and such, but the desire to sleep is gone. It’s like… I didn’t want to sleep just some little time ago. It’s so weird… If you have any experiences or findings of yours, feel free to share as well.
Yeah, the caffeine did what caffeine does. Not much to report.
Thanks for the advice Mr madman
No sh!t.
TIL drinking energy drinks all day long is bad. Who woulda thunk.
Oh my wife saw the impact of caffeine… a black coffee at around 6pm and she didn’t sleep until at least 12 that day
It affects everyone differently. I, too, am very sensitive to caffeine.
I quit caffeine for 9 months and it literally had no effect on my sleep tracked my sleep, take roughly 5-600mg a day. My sleep and HRV improved when I got back on it probably cause I was training harder. Suggest people do go off it and see if it has an impact like OP but it’s not the same for everybody.
@Sam
Yeah. Even my sleep doctor was saying it’d probably have no effect if I quit caffeine. But I only have one cup of coffee in the AM.

Really does depend on the person. If I have a coffee in the morning, I notice I don’t get that real tiredness at night and generally wake up multiple times throughout the night. Absolutely affects me and I can’t have any caffeine at all.
@Hollis
I should really give it a go to see if it would help but I always end up caving when the caffeine headache sets in.
If you have 23andMe look at the raw data and search for snp rs762551. If you have the AA variant, you are a fast caffeine metabolizer. Anything else means you are not. This is the main snp for caffeine clearance.
I will put some vile things in my body, including some questionable exes. But I will not touch energy drinks.
