Do people who sleep well really lose their dark eye circles?

I’m curious if sleeping well actually helps eliminate dark circles under the eyes because I’ve read many recommendations but haven’t heard personal success stories. If you managed to reduce your dark circles by sleeping better, how long did it take? Or do they never fully go away? Despite my efforts to get good sleep, I still look like Nosferatu.

Dark circles can also be caused by allergies.

Absolutely, I can attest to that.

Dark circles can result from poor blood circulation and inflammation. Good sleep helps with circulation, but other factors like allergies, dehydration, genetics, or diet might still interfere. It usually takes me about three days of good sleep to see improvement, unless it’s allergy season, then even antihistamines don’t help much.

For me, it’s genetic. My mom had dark circles too. I learned makeup tricks to cover them up, but at 70, I’m probably the only one who cares about it.

It runs in my family too.

Mine are partly genetic. My dad had them and nothing except intense skincare routines somewhat helps. It’s a lot of effort and some days are better than others, but generally, good sleep doesn’t do much for me.

Mine are due to histamine intolerance, known as allergic shiners.

Even with adequate sleep, I still have them, likely a holdover from my hard-partying 20s. I’m sober now and have learned to love myself as I am.

I used to have dark circles when I smoked weed and cigarettes. Quitting those and adding vitamin C to my skincare routine made a big difference, though I’m not sure which had the bigger effect.

Allergies can often cause dark circles under your eyes.

Facial massages helped me get rid of dark circles. They’re not noticeable even when I’m very tired or didn’t sleep well.

Can you share your routine and maybe some before and after photos?

@Wynne
Unfortunately, I don’t have before and after photos. I’ve been doing facial massages 2-3 times a week for over two years, following YouTube tutorials from channels like Sage and TheMoments.

Yes, proper sleep helped reduce my dark circles, but it took a long time and consistent sleep.

I haven’t found a solution yet despite trying various treatments. I’ve noticed my dark circles remain the same regardless of how much or little I sleep.

Despite getting perfect sleep scores, I still have dark circles. My doctor says it’s due to my deviated septum and allergies.

Genetics play a big role in dark circles, as in my case.

It varies. For some, it’s genetic or related to sinus health. I use caffeine cream and do quick massages, which sometimes helps.

You might also want to check for vitamin or iron deficiencies if sleep isn’t helping.
