Haven't slept for over 40 hours including one all-nighter, need advice!

Hey everyone, I pulled an all-nighter yesterday to try and reset my sleep schedule, and now I’ve been lying in bed for about 3 hours unable to sleep. My heart is racing (I don’t have any illnesses or insomnia), and I’m only 16. What should I do? Please help.

You might want to see a doctor if this continues.

Is it too early to see a doctor? It’s only noon and I think I might fall asleep soon. This has never happened to me before.

@Bliss
Do you mean it’s noon or midnight? Why would you try to sleep in the afternoon?

It’s actually 3 AM now, and I still can’t sleep.

You should try getting off your phone.

I’m not using it. I only picked it up because I’m starting to panic.

If you’re panicking, turn off your phone, close your eyes tightly, take a deep breath through your nose and fill your lungs, hold for 3 seconds, and then breathe out slowly. Repeat this ten times.

@Flynt
I’ve been trying breathing exercises and changing sleeping positions for three hours, from 9 PM to 1 AM. Nothing works. I’m thinking about getting up and doing something else instead of just lying in bed.

@Bliss
Really, get off your phone now.

Stop taking adderall and drinking energy drinks before bed.

I don’t drink energy drinks, and I haven’t had caffeine in about a day.

That was just a joke. On a serious note, do you eat before going to bed?

@Vine
Yes, I usually eat 3-4 hours before trying to sleep.

Pulling an all-nighter won’t actually fix your sleep schedule, it will just make you more exhausted.

Taking deep breaths can help calm your nervous system. Close your eyes, listen to a calming podcast, and continue deep breathing. You’ll fall asleep eventually, even if it seems like you won’t. Your body needs rest.

Google can lead you to misleading information. It’s better to talk to a doctor first. Good luck.

@Haru
This is new for me. I feel tired but I think if I get up and do something, I’ll feel tired enough to sleep in about an hour and get at least 5-6 hours of sleep. Not ideal, but it’s what I can do right now.
