How can I fix my poor sleep quality

I’ve always had trouble sleeping, even as a child. Now, as an adult, it’s both falling and staying asleep that trouble me. Any slight noise, like a whisper in the hallway, wakes me up. I find myself waking every two hours, sometimes for no apparent reason at all. It’s been years since I last slept a full eight hours. This constant tiredness is affecting my daily life, and my chronic migraines are often triggered by this lack of sleep. Has anyone else experienced this, any advice would be appreciated. I’ve heard some people mention that antidepressants helped them, and my therapist has suggested starting on lexapro for my severe anxiety, but I’m hesitant to alter my brain chemistry. Also, I’ve had a sleep study and do not have sleep apnea.

You might want to consider a sleep study if you haven’t yet. It’s quite simple, you use a machine at home and it monitors your sleep. Even though you mentioned not having sleep apnea, guided meditations from YouTube, especially those without ads, could be beneficial. They help calm your mind and body, aiding in better sleep.

I should have clarified, I’ve already had a sleep study done and they confirmed I do not have apnea. I don’t snore or stop breathing, and even though I woke up multiple times, they didn’t note any issues during the study.

I’ve had similar experiences, but I’m diagnosed with ADHD and medication has greatly improved my sleep. It might be worth looking into ADHD, ADD, or even autism as potential underlying issues. Starting with an online test could be a good first step. If your score suggests it, a professional evaluation could be helpful. Have a blessed day.

I suspect I might have ADHD. I’ll look into getting tested. Do you think starting on lexapro could help in the meantime

Definitely, but it’s best to discuss this with your doctor first. They can guide you on the best steps to take, including medication if needed. Feel free to ask more if you have any questions, and I hope your day goes well.

Sleep apnea is quite common and treatable. It’s good to hear you’ve done a sleep study.

Yes, I’ve completed a sleep study, and they confirmed no sleep apnea.

I used to enjoy reading, but nowadays it just leads to headaches and makes me drowsy.
