When my hubby says “I’m going to sleep” it’s like someone just flipped a switch and he is out! I must admit I have considered smothering him with a pillow over this!
Pffffff 15 mins, try 4-5 hours then come talk to me
Yup, especially jealous of those folks that can knockout so easily on planes and trains!
Try sleep podcasts. The one I’m currently using that really works for me is called Nothing Much Happens
I used to be able to wake and be instantly “on” for calls when I was paged. When the call was done, I fell back asleep in less than a minute. My wife was baffled that I could do that.
At that time I had my own business selling and customizing software for accounting and shop floor control. I would be paged at night for big problems and I knew I needed to be on-the-job quickly. I likely fell asleep so fast because I was exhausted.
25 years later, those days are long gone. Insomnia and hypersomnia are what I deal with. I’m in my 60s now.
I’ve heard that it should ideally take 15 mins to fall asleep. Any quicker, you are overtired and your body is begging for sleep.
Some people exercise so much and / or are just so busy during the day that they just fall asleep very quickly.
I feel you! I used to struggle with falling asleep too, especially in unfamiliar places. What helped me was adding a spezial drink to my evening and morning routine – it made such a difference. Maybe something like that could work for you too!
Lmao 15 minutes, without medication I’m usually at least 24-72 hours
The key is to listen to your body. Find your sleep window and go to bed when that window is open. I mean if you’re getting a tired feeling, go immediately to lay down and sleep, it will come on easily. if you postpone , the window will close and you’ll likely be awake for another or or so until the next window of opportunity arrives. If you missed your window and are just laying in bed with your mind running wild, you’ll not fall asleep quickly. Listen to your body seize the moment as soon as you get that really tired feeling like your mind wants to shut off. That will make it take just a minute or two to be asleep
I agree it’s very much about turning your mind off and stop thinking so much. For me I reach a point at night where I’m just so tired and I just want to turn my brain off and stop thinking, and I go to bed immediately then and very quickly fall asleep.
Have you tried autosuggestion?
After I read your post, I thought, “I’m sooo tired” and I yawned 8 times in the course of a few minutes, even though I wasn’t feeling tired before.
I might try this next time before I sleep, also.
Perhaps you can experiment and try to find autosuggestions that work for you?
Good luck.
I just need a certain position and temperature and I’m out in seconds

Temperature plays a massive role for me. 68 degrees is the sweet spot.
15 minutes is a healthy amount of time for sleep onset (time it takes to fall asleep). Those who fall asleep immediately are often under slept, which is why their body just goes into sleep instantly, even at times they don’t want to.
Though we think we envy them, look at this 15 minute wind-down as a positive opportunity to review your day for a few minutes.
Brown noise helps my mind not race
Yeah but some of those people it’s because they have health problems themselves or are on prescription drugs like antidepressants that cause weight gain.
That’s a friend of mine; she can dose off sitting on the toilet.
I can’t say I’d want to trade places with them…although i hate not being able to sleep without either taking bong hits or cannabis edibles or something else.
15mins is very reasonable. I’m trying to get my 4hours down to 15mins!
Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique
you wouldnt be so jealous if you knew that some of these people have long sleep disorders which are a nightmare to live with.
I’ve found taking supplements like l-theanine, magnesium, inositol helps with me.
I’m on amphetamines which keeps me wired and this helps.
