Even in my own bed it’ll take at least 15 mins usually to fall asleep. But staying somewhere like a friends house it’s even worse but then here are my buddies that fall asleep instantly with loud noises in the background lmao
15 minutes?! What the hell, you are a speed sleeper.
Wish I could get to sleep in 15 minutes
It can take me hours to fall asleep. My husband is usually out within a couple minutes. He can sleep anytime anywhere. It’s frustrating and I’m super jealous!

Same!
15 mins!?! What are you complaining about?! I have gone entire nights trying to fall asleep!

I can do that any time of day. I’m jealous of people who don’t wake up at 5:30/6am every day.

Same here… any tips on how to avoid being depressed by this?
15 minutes is natural, more than 30 minutes is not good. Be grateful that you are able to fall asleep that fast.
Under-a-minute sleeper here, and trying to understand to help - are there any instances OP where you have fallen asleep within 10-15 minutes?
I would suggest journaling the morning after to identify what activities on the previous day contribute to the best match between you going to bed and falling asleep. Some include (not exhaustive) :
- Natural variation of sleep time (some sleep earlier)
- Physical activity (the eye lids feeling heavy is one of my best tell tales)
- The ability to not having a racing mind full of thoughts about today or tomorrow (some natural variation here, some can benefit through techniques like meditation)
- Food - identify what your body reacts well to (eg no alcohol/sugar before bed, heavy meal or light?)
- Routine routine routine - a lot of your sleep is actually conditioning (like Pavlov’s dog salivating to ringing of a bell). The hormones (eg melatonin) are themselves subject to cycles and routines help a lot here. You can try and trigger,/replicate these routines also in new environments (eg earbuds for silence and your favorite pillow when at a friend’s place).
Wish you a more sleepy 2025!
Never underestimate the power of an offline bedtime routine. I’m serious. It’s a game changer. Just google offline bedtime routine & you can read all about why it works. Our brains LOVE routines & once they associate a routine with sleep, POW, you’re off to sleep in like 10-15min. Maybe even less.
My wife is out in minutes and I will lay here for a couple of hours stressing about falling asleep. She may not move a muscle for hours but the next morning tell me how terrible it was trying to fall asleep. She never believed me until we both got smart watches. She is also the type that will fall asleep at the beginning of a movie and 2 hours later roll over and kiss me good night because she is feeling tired and might doze off. I tell her “honey, the movie is over and you have been out for 2 hours”.
I am one of the lucky ones. My wife is not.
I think it comes down to the ability to just stop thinking about things. I travel alot on business.
Get on a plane and even with notices around etc. Relax my mind for a rest and fall asleep.
Same at home…Lay down, don’t think about problems of the day or what your doing tomorrow, your mind is not active and fall asleep.
My wife tries to falls asleep with TV on. I think she is listening to it. I’m next to her but fall asleep quick, I think because my mind is not actively engaged in it.
That’s my best explanation
@Kiran
So I’m assuming you don’t suffer from anxiety ?

No. Fortunately not.
I’m very easy going person an blessed to have close friends and family. I think over all that helps tremendously
@Kiran
You are so lucky. The thought of just turning off your thoughts seems unbelievable for someone like me lol. But I’m trying to start meditating more, hopefully that helps

They have the ability to control their emotions
