I feel like I wanna urinate during nighttime when in bed

When im in bed, after 15-20 minutes i feel like i need to pee, then i go, try to urinate, and only a few drops come out
This can repeat a few times, quite ruining my schedule, how can I trick my brain to not feel the urge to pee?

The condition you’re describing, frequent urination at night, is often referred to as nocturia. I’m not a doctor, but here are a few things that might help:

  • Try limiting your fluid intake, or avoid drinking anything at least 2-3 hours before bed.
  • If you’re taking any other medications, check if frequent urination is a listed side effect.
  • I highly recommend to check with a doctor to rule out any underlying health issues like diabetes or bladder problems, which can cause frequent urination.

@Noor
Just to piggyback on this comment as I dealt with a similar issue in 2022 - anxiety and other mental health issues can also cause physiological responses including increased feeling of needing to pee.

Absolutely get checked out by a doctor because there could be serious issues, but just want to throw in that theyre not all scary.

@Noor
the problem is, i dont actually urinate, or at least very little small drops, is it still nocturia?

Speak to a doctor, not Reddit!!!

its hard to get a doctors appointment nowadays, they are full with work and there is barely any space for new patients in the city i live

@Noor
There should be walk in clinics. No excuses for not seeing a doctor with the problems you are describing. urinary tract infection is another option, Men get them lots less than women but I have had them. C a DR !

@Milo
Its the first night i experience that, maybe it was just due to stress
If the problem persists, i will go

@Noor
^ Yes. Check with your doctor. I am not a doctor but there are a lot of reasons that people feel like they need to pee then can’t. What OP described is the need to pee but being unable to. Idk if that counts as frequent urination or not (see “I am not a doctor…”).

Sometimes if I think about it too much my brain thinks I actually do have to pee. If nothings coming out just try to ignore it :slight_smile: not like you will pee your pants. Still talk to a doctor if it persists

I have the same situation sometimes. In my case it is anxiety. I am just trying to be calm. Also I mentioned, I need to pee more, when my nose is stuffed and I have to breathe through my mouth.

Your condition sounds like overactive bladder. I used to have it. I started doing Kegel exercises and it slowly improved.

Which exercises? Can you tell me the name or send me a guide

@Noor
Kegel muscle exercises. When you pee the muscles you squeeze to stop the flow of urine are the Kegel muscles. Don’t use your Kegel muscles when you pee; it causes incontinence.

I use the Kegel Master. A lot of merchants sell other things such as bullet vibrators with the Kegel Master. You don’t need them.

The other device I like is the Perifit. I don’t use Perifit often but it’s a cool tool. Fun if you’re into video games.

The exercises should be done on a firm surface; like on the floor. Kegel Master instructions say use every other day. I used it every day. It takes a very long time to notice results. I started in December. I wasn’t confident I was making any progress until July. Been doing Kegels every day since 2011.

@Leif
What did you notice improved after the exercises?

Urge incontinence improved; rarely happens. Stress incontinence improved drastically.

I saw a physical therapist for pelvic floor. She said my pelvic floor is very strong. She also said she doesn’t get patients with my pelvic floor strength.

The reason I went to a pelvic floor physical therapist was for nocturnal polyuria. I since learned nocturnal polyuria a symptom of sleep apnea.

I like to call this “psychological pee”, basically your brain gets convinced you have to pee, when you actually don’t need to or have just gone to pee, and when you then go to pee, it usually goes away.

For me it’s linked to anxiety, the more anxious i am when going to bed, the more likely i am to have to go to a psychological pee ten minutes after going to bed. If i am really anxious about sleeping (a new place for example) i might end up repeating this cycle a ton of times, ruining my sleep. Usually at that point i take some fast acting melatonin and do the last psychological pee just when the melatonin starts taking effect so i fall asleep before the cycle continues.
