I'm so frustrated I can't sleep

I’ve been trying to get more sleep after several days of sleep deprivation. I finally have the opportunity to sleep for 8 hours, but I just can’t fall asleep, which makes me very angry. I end up slapping myself out of frustration. I avoid taking any medicine for my headache because I see it as a reminder that I need to sleep early. I’ve been lying in bed trying to sleep for 2 hours now, and it’s making me anxious. As a student, I really need to sleep on the days I can, and now I’m worried I won’t get this chance again soon. I don’t care if my body suffers; it feels like a deserved punishment.

It might be helpful to consider speaking with a therapist. This situation sounds very challenging.

I don’t think therapy will help. I just can’t sleep the way I need to.

Cognitive behavioral therapy might be beneficial. It can help change the thoughts that are affecting your sleep.

@Wei
I don’t think I need it. I’m just upset because I missed my chance to sleep well, and now I won’t have another opportunity like this for a while. I’ve been in bed for 4 hours and still can’t sleep.

It could be really helpful to listen to advice from people who have been in similar situations and found solutions.

How long has this issue been happening? Punishing yourself isn’t going to help and might make things worse. If this is a long-term issue, it might be a circadian rhythm disorder. If it’s occasional, try to find calming activities during the day and night, like walking, meditating, or journaling.

@Vail
I’ve tried to calm down, but the more I stay awake, the angrier I get. I needed to sleep fully on my two free days, and now they’re wasted. I’m so frustrated and sad that I lost this opportunity to rest properly.

Consider doing something relaxing when you can’t sleep, like reading or listening to calming music. Sometimes it’s better to rest calmly even without sleep than to stay angry and sleepless.

Seeing a therapist might be a good idea. It sounds like you’re dealing with a lot of stress and frustration.

Try relaxing nighttime routines like listening to ASMR or brown noise, and create a calming bedtime ritual, like changing into pajamas and doing skincare. These habits helped me during stressful times.
