Replacing Late Night Screens with Books: A Game Changer for Sleep

Is reading e-books on a phone just as good? I prefer e-books for convenience.

Based on my experience, it’s better to read physical books. Phones can lead to distractions and the blue light may impact sleep.

Digital screens emit blue light which can trick your brain into staying awake. I’ve found that avoiding digital screens before bed helps me sleep better. I use the library instead of buying books; it saves money and I can find any book I need.

@Linden
I love using my local library too! It’s a great resource for accessing a variety of books without cluttering up your home.

Consider a dedicated e-reader with a warm backlight. It’s not the same as a phone and can be adjusted to reduce blue light exposure, making it suitable for nighttime reading.

@Rowan
I use dark mode and wear blue light blockers, which seems to work well enough for me.

That’s a good strategy, though it’s easy to get distracted and end up browsing instead of reading.

@Rowan
I’ve had the same issue with getting sidetracked when using my phone for reading.

Using a dark or night mode on your app can greatly reduce the amount of light, which helps mitigate the impact on sleep.

I use a Kindle Paperwhite for nighttime reading. The screen warmth can be adjusted to cut down on blue light, and I sometimes switch to dark mode.

I’ve gotten into a bad habit of staying up late watching TikTok and YouTube. I used to read before bed and need to get back to that.

The key for me was establishing the habit of no phone use before bed. That made all the difference.

I’m looking for a good book light that doesn’t use LEDs as they don’t illuminate the page well.
