Seeking Alternatives for Insomnia Treatment Post-Weed

I recently quit smoking weed and have been experiencing severe insomnia as a result. My brain feels like it’s running non-stop, and I haven’t found relief with Unisom, melatonin, or Benadryl. Exercise isn’t helping due to lack of sleep for recovery. My doctor prescribed Trazodone; I’m curious if anyone has had experiences with this medication, especially those who don’t suffer from depression or major anxiety.

I’ve had chronic sleeping issues and initially used indica strains to help. After deciding to quit for health reasons, I was prescribed Trazodone. It doesn’t knock me out but calms me enough that I can sleep through the night once I close my eyes. Initially, it was hard to get out of bed, but that subsided. I’m taking 50mg nightly.

@Darwin
That’s reassuring to hear, especially about your transition off weed. I’m starting with 50mg tonight and debating whether to take the full dose or half, considering potential grogginess. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I recommend starting with Trazodone at 50mg and possibly increasing to 100mg if needed. Pair it with L-theanine and magnesium 2 hours before bedtime and give it about 90 days before deciding if it works for you.

Insomnia can be incredibly frustrating. I’ve tried various prescriptions over the years, including Ambien with wild side effects. Trazodone made me dizzy to the point of fainting, so I had to stop. I now use Seroquel at a low dose, which seems to help better without significant side effects.

@Zander
Thanks for sharing your journey. It sounds like finding the right medication can be a trial and error process. I’m hopeful Trazodone will be different for me, but I’m keeping an open mind about alternatives if necessary.

Also dealing with severe insomnia and about to start Trazodone. Even with regular cannabis use, my mind races at night. Looking forward to seeing if Trazodone makes a difference, as I’m really needing a change.

@Ezra
It’s tough, right? Weed helped temporarily but ultimately seemed to exacerbate the issue. Here’s hoping we both find some relief with Trazodone. Let’s keep each other posted on our progress.

Trazodone has been a godsend for my insomnia. I started feeling a bit groggy initially, but that subsided. No serious side effects so far, and it’s been over a year. I take 50mg before bed.

That’s encouraging to hear. I’m starting with 50mg as well. Did you experience any dependency issues, or have you been able to use it as needed?

@Zion
I’ve been able to use it as needed without developing a dependency. It’s been effective and manageable, which is a relief.
