I am trying to make a point to not use my phone much in the evening. I already read and do red light therapy. I need to find more calming activities to help transition from a busy day into a calm, peaceful, and present nighttime. What do you guys do?
I recommend audiobooks, podcasts, or documentaries. Although screens are generally not advised, I find David Attenborough’s BBC documentaries particularly soothing. His voice against a backdrop of natural scenes is very relaxing. Spotify offers a great selection of audiobooks in English.

Making it a routine helps you associate these sounds with sleep.

Exactly, building a routine helps your brain link these activities with sleep. For some, it may be too engaging, but for me, it replaces anxiety with calming thoughts, aiding my sleep.
@Bin
Every brain is different. I think this is very common though.

This sparked an idea for me. I’ve wanted to explore new movie genres; perhaps evenings are a good time for that. Thanks!
Knitting or listening to free sleep podcasts works for me. They are relaxing and I usually fall asleep within minutes.

I’m currently enjoying ‘Nothing Much Happens’. The narrator’s soothing voice and the calm stories help me fall asleep quickly.
@Finch
That sounds delightful.
@Finch
I’m familiar with that one; it’s quite good!
Reading, drawing, journaling, and meditation are all excellent ways to wind down in the evening.

I haven’t drawn in a long time. Maybe I’ll give it a try. Thanks!
I use audio books from a local library app, which lets me download books for free.

Yes, I use Libby and another app called BorrowBook.
@Haven
I’ll consider giving them another try. Thanks!
I try to go to bed when I feel sleepy and not overthink sleep. Sometimes, I’ll watch a TV show to help me drift off.
Have you tried different colors of noise to help you sleep?

I’ve used an air purifier, but it dried out my throat overnight. Noise sensitivity makes me a light sleeper, but I’m open to trying again.
