I enjoy having a drink while reading in bed, but I’m looking for something other than water to sip on. I’m lactose intolerant, so milk is out of the question. Tea makes me gag, and I can’t stand the taste of almond milk. It seems like I’ve ruled out a lot of common choices, so I’m hoping for some fresh ideas.
How about trying a sugar-free electrolyte powder in water? It can add a nice flavor without being too heavy.
You could try hot cocoa when it’s cold outside. For a summer option, there’s a syrup called ‘caffeine free Java’ that makes a nice iced coffee alternative without caffeine. Since you’re lactose intolerant, you could use a lactose-free milk substitute like oat milk instead of almond milk. Also, have you tried raspberry-flavored canned tea? It’s quite light and fruity, not like traditional tea.
Soy milk might be a good option. You can spice it up with cinnamon or turmeric. It’s healthy and doesn’t have the typical taste or texture of regular milk.
What about wine or sparkling juice? There’s also horchata, hot chocolate, or fruit juice. If none of those work, you could consider flavor packets for water.
Have you tried lactose-free milk? It’s similar to regular milk but without the lactose, which might suit your dietary needs.
Adding electrolytes to your water before bed is always a good choice. It’s hydrating and not too heavy.
I also can’t have lactose, but I enjoy hot cocoa made with plant-based milks. Soy milk is my favorite, although it’s less popular. You might find a brand or flavor that works for you.
Have you considered water with a bit of rosewater? It’s soothing and has a unique flavor that you might find calming.
Tart cherry juice mixed with a dash of poppi or spindrift is my favorite bedtime drink! It’s refreshing and not too sweet.
