Am I The Only One on Earth That Tosses and Turns on Melatonin?

Even 1mg of the stuff has me feeling sleepy, but then tossing and turning all night long.

It only has a small window of time to get me to sleep after taking it. If I miss that threshold then I’m restless, awake all night, and my restless leg syndrome gets worse also.

Thank god, I thought I was the only one.

Exactly the same with myself.

I find that melatonin gets me to sleep, but if I have to wake up (to pee or something) or get woken up (kids), I CANNOT get back to sleep.

This happens to me too. It’s horrible

Benadryl and sleeping pills cause my restless legs to go crazy and keep me up all night. They work the opposite way that they are supposed to. Some people say it’s because I have ADHD. :woman_shrugging:

Yep, my brother has ADHD and this is something that happens to him. We found weighted blankets or a cat in the legs in the chance the blanket is on the dry cleaners helps

Are you having weird dreams? Melatonin makes me have weird dreams.

Melatonin often causes me to have very macabre and bizarre—and restless dreams. I’ve read this is common and often part of the issue is the dose: tablets are often 3-6 mg but the suggested dose is often 0.75 mg. The tablets are too big. If you’re having issues maybe change the dose.

@Ridley
That happens to me too! Should I raise or lower the dose?

Lower the dose. Shoot for no more than 1 mg. I have some 3 mg tablets that I break into quarters.

I feel for me that if you’re anxious or have anxiety while trying to fall sleep, melatonin doesn’t work. Does the opposite.

Agreed

I tried a low-dose of melatonin and did not like it. It made me feel groggy the next day - and did not help me sleep better!

I am the same way, sleeping pills don’t work on me, nor chamomile tea or anything of that sort

Not only does it not work, it causes me to be restless getting a worse sleep.

@Blair
Same, I will take that sleeping pill that is the stuff I’m benadryl, forget what it is called, but then just not feel tired at all, it’s almost like it wakes me up

It makes me wake up at 2am every time I take it. I no longer take it.
