Frequent Nighttime Bathroom Trips Are Ruining My Sleep

Over the past week, I’ve been waking up four to five times a night needing to pee. It’s really hard to relax afterwards, and I’m exhausted all day. It’s messing up my sleep pretty badly. Does anyone have any advice on how to manage this?

Could it be too much caffeine? Try cutting back on coffee and soft drinks and see if that helps.

Do you find yourself needing to pee a lot during the day as well? Are you feeling thirsty often? It might be worth checking out as it could be the start of diabetes.

I do pee quite a bit during the day too, but it seems worse at night. I’m not particularly thirsty though.

I’m 30 and don’t often feel very thirsty either.

Funny thing, I’m only 18!

It might be a good idea to talk to a doctor about possibly having an overactive bladder. There are treatments available that could help.

I started doing pelvic floor exercises like Kegels, and it reduced my nighttime bathroom visits significantly. Might be worth a try!

That’s really interesting, I’ve never heard of that helping before!

It could be sleep apnea. Sometimes it causes you to wake up frequently through the night. I used to wake up feeling panicked because I couldn’t breathe properly.

Definitely see a doctor if you’re also peeing a lot during the day. You might have an underlying condition like an overactive bladder, which can usually be managed with medication.

Try not drinking water two hours before bed. It sounds simple, but it’s really effective. Also, I stop eating four hours before bed.

This might sound odd, but hear me out. I use a pee bottle next to my bed. It’s been a game-changer for me. It allows me to go back to sleep much faster without fully waking up.

Maybe reduce your fluid intake after 6 pm?

Hold off on reducing fluids until you’re sure it’s not a medical issue causing the frequent urination. It could be risky otherwise.

Check the volume and color of your urine when you pee at night. If it’s a lot and pale, you need to see a doctor ASAP. It could be a sign of diabetes or another condition. Don’t cut back on fluids before getting checked out.

It’s quite a bit each time, and it’s usually pale. I don’t drink much before bed, so it’s weird. I’ll see a doctor to find out what’s going on.

You might want to consult a sleep specialist. It could be sleep apnea or UARS.
