There’s the story of the guy (Peter Tripp ) who stayed up for a radio fundraising event in the 50s and his personality changed so much, it ruined his life. Wife left him, he became an alcoholic, and died broke and alone.
I had insomnia issues lasting like a month (I never slept more than 3 hours but usually less) a year back and when combined with nervozity… I couldn’t remember the faces of people I met on a course I attended, their names or the things they told me about themselves. Literally almost nothing. I didn’t recognize them the next week. I seriously thought I might have an early onset Alzheimer’s… Then once I started sleeping again, it got fixed.
Try and squeeze in an extra hour or two if you can, might make a bigger difference than you think. Read more, sleep more and eat more healthy foods. Go out and exercise.
5-6 hours sleep each night won’t do that to you, many people get that or less every night and never face anything like that. Sounds like something else imo

It depends on who you are though the standard 8-hour recommendation is kind of made up. Some people only need 5-6 hours while some genuinely need 9-10! So, if this person is like me and needs 9-10, only getting 5-6 can be bad. That’s losing out on 40-50% of their sleep!

That’s a fair point, those few hours every night could add up over time if their body feels like it needs more to function properly. Opinion changed!

I felt the same til I also learned that I need more sleep than others and my 5 hours per night was damaging my health. Not to mention the effects of sleep debt and how hard it is to get back into positive numbers.
I think people with absolutely no sleep probably die in a week to 10 days. I’m going on 14 months straight of severely diminished sleep and can confirm, it’s wrecked my physical, mental, and emotional health and I absolutely feel like it’s slowly killing me.
Guys stop giving each other sleep anxiety. Perpetuating untrue anecdotal stories, about a lack of sleep killing your brain, is very stupid.
New parents who have babies don’t get anywhere near 8 hours sleep for the first few YEARS of their child’s life.
Your brain will not rot away, you’ll be fine. Get as much sleep as you can, if you can’t don’t worry, not important, no big deal. Being happy is more important! No point in being constantly stressed out and miserable over getting an arbitrary number of hours of sleep.
@Zan
Did you ever actually experience insomnia of some kind or do you sleep as much as your body needs? Cause you sound like a person preaching about how war is when you’ve never been to one.

Not that it’s any of your business but yes I have a lot of experience with a variety of sleep disorders.
@Zan
Good. It’s my business from the moment you made that comment. Either way everyone is different and we all need different amounts of sleep. You don’t get to tell others how much sleep deprivation affects them. Also sleep is one of the most important things for wellbeing and that is a fact bye
