Doctors don’t help in this situation. I know because I have exactly the same issue and have been to more doctors than any hypochondriac would, in vain.
Sorry people are downvoting you. My doctor was also no help. They told me to go to bed at the same time each night, take supplements, exercise more and read a book about insomnia.
@Chandler
Same here and I did two sleep study’s. One said I slept for 6 and a half hours and the other said I slept for 4 and a half hours. But I know for sure that’s not correct because I toss and turn for hours and get up several of times a night.
Also, I’m a healthy 31 year old male who’s active and 6 foot even and 165lbs. For my age, 7 hours of sleep is what’s recommended. If I was sleeping 6 and a half hours a night as my sleep study stated, there’s no way why I should be feeling like an absolute zombie every day of the week!

They tell you to take Melatonin at a too high of a dose, If I would of done 10mg of Melatonin I would have went into horrific sleep paralysis & those are not fun at all.

I think you may experience anxiety. I had the exactly same symptoms before. Until I got panic attacks, and went to see doctor. I was given gabapentin. I have only tried one week, it helped me sleep. You can talk to doctor and see if this can fit you or not.
@Ash
I recently had a 96hr+ anxiety attack, something I wouldn’t even have believed was possible. It felt like something broke in me though, & I’ve noticed some huge differences physically- plus I’ve been sleeping almost normally since, something that hasn’t been true in a couple decades now. It’s actually a little scary what anxiety can do to you
@Bao
Happened to me once! I remember the physical recovery taking a bit.

You most likely need to talk to a doctor about a course of action.
Look up Yoga Nidra. It reset my overactive nervous system. Also this video: https://youtu.be/_tqi3ABznwc?si=-9toOukuSUGxSAIO

This is amazing
Go to a doctor. You might want to refuse things like ambien or anything dependence causing that usually work well for a while because if it eventually stops working then you’ll be dependent and when you stop taking it your insomnia will be worse than it was in the first place. I know because after stopping prescribed klonopin I couldn’t sleep for 5 years. I tried lots of things through my doctor and finally settled on dayvigo for a few months, then switched to rozerem. What works for me may not work for you. My point is that if one thing doesn’t work try something else. It’s worth going through the trouble of finding what works. I know I’m going to get a zillion downvotes from people who swear by ambien that haven’t taken it for a long period of time, so haven’t found out yet.
@Wade
No downvote from me. I agree. Ambien is a Godsend when used appropriately. I fucked up and became addicted. It solved all my sleep problems when I started using it and using it responsibly though.

This is a last resort, but maybe a psychiatrist can prescribe you medicine to help you sleep. I had bad anxiety that kept me up at night. Then boom one medication knocked me out and slept like a baby. I weened off of it after a month or two b cause it made me lathargic and now live an ok sleep life… this was years ago.
BUT AGAIN last resort because these drugs/medicine can affect people differently start off slow.
Please get checked out–you might have sleep apnea. A neurologist is the best doctor to see for sleep issues. But you can start with your primary care doctor.

how much magnesium? the hospital put me on 9mg per kg per day divided dose with most at night and it’s a lot more than the package recommends, it can be like 5-8 pills or more in some brands
it will require therapy for the racing thoughts issue too though, when the problem is that pronounced you need a multi-disciplinary intervention
@Fay
He walks 20k steps a day nearly 16Km. Thats a lot of electrolites lost doing that. No wondery why its having those results
