Do you shut off screens an hour before bed? Do you check your phone when you wake?

Do you have bright clocks or lights on vs a totally dark environment?

Have you tried a white noise machine?

Have you tried meditative breathing exercises?

@Sawyer
The moment you look at your phone screen after waking up it is over for you. Also if I hear birds, I am done sleeping. That’s why if I wake up early in the morning I pop my airpods in and blast a white noise audio file I preloaded the night before, so I can just tap my airpods to start it without looking at my screen.

Adrenal fatigue

Sleep study

Grounding, spending time with nature, yoga so that your circadian rhythm can be restored.

See a doctor man

I think it’s trauma, seeing a trauma informed psychotherapist or psychologist would definitely help with this. These are all symptoms of an unregulated nervous system. Remember, TRAUMA INFORMED mental health professionals. So many of them are not trauma informed and will give you temporary fixes that will fuck you up in the long run. See a trauma informed psychologist or psychotherapist then consult with them if they think you need to see a trauma informed psychiatrist.

@Gray
yeah, i had the absolute worst year of my life last year, up until a few months ago. am starting to recover but feel like a different person. i also dont remember my childhood so theres that. i know its all coming up, its just hard finding someone who can receive it i guess. the thing is, i’ve seen some therapists, but they just seem to sit back and listen and that seems to be about all. i almost feel like i could just say whatever i want, but i dont feel like they’re actually paying attention. it just seems to be so common in the profession, i feel like giving up. i’m going to ask my gp for a referral tomorrow and try again. i just literally feel like i’m talking into thin air and they don’t know what to do with me or say to me. sometimes it even feels like i’m the one making the connections and then they’re agreeing because they can see where im coming from, and im just kinda tired, feel like im doing the work lol

sorry for dumping on you, but i’ll give it another go
thanks for this, there’s a connection

@Rowan
You are paying a therapist. There’s nothing wrong with saying “I feel like I’m not getting much out of these sessions and I was expecting you to offer me more coping mechanisms and tools”. Don’t be afraid to push them to talk.

@Rowan
There are so many useless therapists, so I’m not surprised you had those experiences. It’s so hard to find a good one. There are many good videos about psychological issues on YouTube. Whether it’s depression, PTSD, anxiety, narcissistic parents, etc. Start digging through those, I have found them so helpful. You might like the channel of The Crappy Childhood Fairy- she teaches about managing emotional disregulation, and other relevant topics. And she has videos about why the standard therapeutic approach doesn’t work for a lot of people. Hope it helps!

@Rowan
You haven’t done anything my friend :blue_heart:

One struggling person vulnerable enough to open up about their inner conflict helps another person to be brave enough to open up and ask for help.

You’re helping me feel less isolated knowing that other people have similar struggles, and your bravery to share this gives me the courage to seek more help.

You haven’t done anything wrong, so don’t apologize, i’m here for you if you wanna talk one way or another buddy :blue_heart:

@Rowan
I hate the generic response of stress, but it sounds like you’ve been through the wringer. That will mess you up. You might be feeling better on the surface but it could take time for you to really recover from it.

@Rowan
Hi OP, I was visiting a therapist For over six months and I wasn’t getting anywhere because we were focusing on CBT therapy. This type of therapy works with mild to moderate anxiety or depression and I recently started seeing a trauma inform therapist and it is literally been life-changing. they educate you on what’s going on in your body and they provide tools to help yourself regulate and it will absolutely improve your sleep. You’re essentially getting paid a one-on-one lecture on what’s happening within you it’s nothing close to sit down therapy where you’re talking about your problems. I feel for you, I have experienced similar problems. Hope this helps please keep us updated.

As a sleep therapist and meditation teacher for over 2 decades, here’s what I recommend - talk therapy, walking meditations, breathwork counseling, yoga nidra, in addition to recommend supplements, doctors and sleep study. I do have a free community yoga nidra group that support each other, in case you’d like to join. We practice weekly. WhatsApp Group Invite

@Weston
Thank you for this. I deal with exactly the same issues. I just joined.

All you’re describing are typical symptoms of anxiety / depression.

I went through a similar phase where I couldn’t sleep , the night time awakenings, just everything you mention.

I’d recommend to talk to a psychiatrist there is a lot of non addictive medication that will help you to stabilise so that you can talk through your experiences during your last year. Don’t underestimate cumulative stress and its effects on the brain and body

@Devi
This is true. I got prescribed both lexapro and trazodone and I feel like myself again. The insomnia made me anxious but in turn I was too anxious because I thought I couldn’t fall asleep. It’s a cycle.
