Thank you and I think with the right prep and planning it can be done. Of course talk to your doctor about any medication related changes

What common sleep hygiene tips had the most and least impact on your sleep quality overall? (Going to bed at the same time, waking up at the same time, light, room temp, etc)

For me going to bed/waking up at the same time wasn’t always 100% spot on. BUT I always made sure to sleep 8 hours. If you work during the week, of course you’ll have to work backwards from your wake-up time. But on weekends sometimes for social events etc I’ll sleep a bit later, and wake up a bit later too.

I don’t do much about screen time/blue light, but I do dim the lights in my home 2-3 hours before bedtime.

Room temp is the most important IMO - cooler = better. I blast the AC, use a fan and also use cooling bedding

@Teal
what is cooling bedding?!

@Teal
Awesome, thanks for the answer!

maybe! haha

thoughts on 8sleep/bedjet?

I can fall asleep fine but how do you STAY asleep? That’s my issue

@Teal
I love my BedJet. I’ve been using it for over two years. My husband doesn’t like fans and gets cold easy so the BedJet allows me to have cooler air around me that doesn’t affect him. It’s really little more than an expensive fan (I don’t use the sheet with it), but since it’s working for both of us, so worth it. Win/win.

So what worked and what didn’t? …lol
How long did you have sleep issues?
What was the issue? Taking a while to fall asleep, waking up in the middle numerous times?

My issue was primarily having an unstable sleep time since I’m self-employed and don’t have a typical anchor in my day (eg. a regular work schedule) so the onus is on me to stick to a routine which i find really tough.

Both sleep and wake times would constantly get pushed later and later to a point where I’d be going to bed at like 10am the next day. It was affecting my mood and also my relationships with my wife, family and friends.

The big issue was my mind racing even if I laid in bed. And also getting up in the morning

@Teal
What helped you with the racing thoughts? Also when you were adjusting your schedule. Did you change both your bedtime and your wake up time at the same time?

Also interested in this as my main issue is inability to turn my brain off.

@Dru
Count. Sheep. Backwards from 100. Think of fruit that begins with A.B. C. Etc or whatever category you want. In short, bore yourself to sleep.
Or breathe the box. Thru nose inhale to count of 8. Hold for 4. Exhale through nose count of 8. Hold for 4. Repeat prn.
Repeat

@Dru
Hmm have tried that stuff, no luck. Thanks for answering though.

Mildly interesting podcasts stop my racing thoughts and help me fall asleep. I usually set a sleep timer for 30-45m. History of English is a good one.
