I naturally go to bed at 2 AM or later and would sleep until the afternoon if possible. For those who relate to the title, what strategies have helped you go to bed earlier and feel tired at a reasonable hour for work? I’ve tried alarms, melatonin, magnesium, reading, and cutting out coffee, but nothing has worked. I’ve been struggling with this since my early adulthood and I’m still facing this issue in my early 30s.
Avoiding alcohol, relaxing before bed with baths or decaf tea, and eliminating screen time have helped me. It’s hard to change these habits but they are effective. Sometimes I also use cannabis to wind down.

It’s generally recommended to avoid screens for 2-3 hours before bedtime.
Living as a night owl in a 9-5 world is always tough. I’ve found using cannabis oil and drinking Twinings Nightly Calm tea helps a lot. I also read fiction on my e-reader in dark mode after turning off other screens. Regular exercise during the day also improves my sleep quality significantly.
I’ve had a severe struggle with early starts, especially when I was a teacher starting work at 6:30/7:30 AM, which made me constantly ill. Now I work remotely with flexible hours, and it’s much better. I avoid all devices before bed, use blue light blocking glasses, and keep lights very dim after 8 PM. I also take magnesium salt baths, do stretching, and engage in low-stimulation activities. Listening to soundbaths designed for sleep is very relaxing. I use the Insight Timer app for this. If I’m tired the next day, I remind myself that I can always take a nap.
