Slept too much, now can’t sleep at all?

I had a migraine on Friday, threw up, took off work early, then slept until Monday morning. Woke up 3x to eat, etc. This has never happened to me. I always sleep from 10p-5a. Can’t sleep and I don’t feel tired now. Is this normal? Will I feel exhausted tomorrow even though I slept nearly 60 hours over the weekend?

Sleeping more than nine hours in 24 hours is considered oversleeping. A longer sleep time may be a symptom of other underlying conditions, like depression, illness, or a sleep disorder, but also environmental factors like shift work.

Some ways to help you get up and going after oversleeping include drinking water, doing yoga, eating food, splashing water in your face, and getting physical activity.

Treatment usually involves stimulant medications, which help the person stay awake. Antidepressant medications may help control hallucinations and episodes of sleep paralysis. Doctors may also recommend that people take a few good naps throughout the day, as this can improve narcolepsy symptoms.

There are many causes of excessive sleepiness, including insufficient or inadequate sleep, sleep disorders, medications and medical or psychiatric illnesses

Idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) is a rare chronic sleep disorder that causes people to feel very sleepy (excessive daytime sleepiness) even after a full night of rest
