Me too!!!
Holy shit, I’ve never laughed at just the title of a post before. HAHAHAHA!
This made me cry with laughter. If this happened to me, I would be so distraught and questioning if I’m actually a good person. Have you had a recent experience with a racist? Whether just hearing them or observing them? If this is real, I don’t think it means you’re secretly or subconsciously racist. Dreams often portray fears in strange ways, and maybe you are afraid of appearing racist. Thanks for making my night!
I’m in an Uber right now trying not to lose my mind. What is this???

I like how Ibram X. Kendi discusses racism. In 2024, everyone has grown up in a racist society, so we all adopt racist thinking; it’s unavoidable. For example, even the concept of race is unscientific and racist.
There’s no such thing as ‘not being racist.’ It’s how we all learn to see the world. What we can be is anti-racist. We can work to identify and fight against racism to create a less racist future.
It seems you’re so committed to being anti-racist that you’re dreaming about the anxiety of accidentally appearing more racist than you are.
If this is something you want to work through, I recommend checking out the book How to Be an Antiracist. I always recommend it to people who feel awkwardness or guilt about racism; it’s great at framing it as a historical issue rather than a personal one.
@Skylar
This is the best, most insightful reply I’ve seen so far. Spot on.
Here’s what ChatGPT says about your issue. That’ll be $900, thank you, come again.
Your experience seems troubling, but remember that dreams often reflect deeper anxieties, concerns, or internal conflicts rather than conscious intentions. It’s unlikely these dreams indicate latent racism, especially given how they disturb you.
Here’s what you might consider to address the situation:
-
Reflect on Recent Stress or Anxiety: Sometimes dreams process stress from unrelated areas. The recurring nature of these dreams may suggest something else worries you, with the dream using shocking imagery to draw attention to that stress.
-
Identify the Emotional Context: In your dreams, it seems the word is used accidentally, leading to immediate distress. This might indicate fears of making a grave mistake in other areas of life.
-
Practice Mindfulness or Journaling Before Sleep: Writing down your thoughts or practicing mindfulness before bed could help calm your mind and reduce unwanted dreams. Processing emotions consciously before sleep might prevent them from appearing in dreams.
-
Talk to a Therapist: If the dreams persist and cause distress, a therapist could help unpack underlying issues. Techniques like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) can assist in breaking repetitive dream patterns.
-
Open Up to Your Partner: Being honest with your wife about what’s happening may relieve some anxiety. Explaining that these are disturbing unintentional dreams might open up supportive dialogue.
Recurring dreams causing distress should be taken seriously, but they don’t necessarily reflect true feelings or beliefs. With the right approach, it’s possible to reduce or stop them altogether.

These are the answers for you. You are anxious about being racist or doing the worst possible thing—calling the beloved former president a racial epithet in front of his family. You’re aware of the absolute worst-case scenario.
When I was a kid, my mom took me to the Empire State Building. She had just bought me a Game Boy Color. As I looked at the still-standing Twin Towers, I was filled with anxiety and power over throwing it off the edge. I recoiled physically. I would never do that! But I totally could! Consciousness is bizarre like that. Talk to a therapist if you need. Trust yourself, my friend!
@Zev
Not at all interested in what ChatGPT had to say.
Oh boy, new copypasta!
I’m not concerned that you dreamed of a racial slur. Dreams are uncontrollable and help the brain extinguish emotionally difficult memories in a process known as “fear memory extinction.” It’s more concerning that you continue having the dream, as we aren’t supposed to remember our dreams. Additionally, you report fatigue the next day, indicating disrupted or fragmented sleep.
Have you ever been tested for sleep apnea? Do you move around a lot in your sleep? Does your partner report excessive movement, acting out dreams, or similar?
There’s a theory that dreams and intrusive thoughts prepare us for worst-case scenarios.
Maybe you’re anxious about offending people? It might help to accept that you probably will offend someone eventually and plan what you’d say if it happens.
This is hilarious!
I feel sorry for you, man, but I’m sorry I laughed at your story.
