Is it really possible to go 11 months without sleep? I'm struggling... Can researchers help me?

@West
There have been moments where I’ve lost consciousness and entered a vivid dream state, then bolted awake in panic. Other than those brief moments, I haven’t slept even an hour or two at a time. It’s highly distressing.

That’s horrifying. I’m really sorry to hear that.

It’s absolutely heartbreaking at 31.

  1. You’d be dead if that were true. 2) You need to spend a night at a sleep lab; this forum can’t help you before that. 3) Once you do the sleep lab, and if by some miracle you haven’t slept, the doctors will want more research on you.

You’d definitely be dead. I didn’t sleep for 9 days, and I was hallucinating and had a breakdown.

Do you have symptoms of mood disorders?

I get very anxious and irritable because this is just awful.

That makes sense. Just a thought, but people with intense mania and bipolar disorder can have periods of little to no sleep. I hope you find some clarity on this issue :pray:t3:

Where do you live? I have sleep study equipment and can hook you up to an EEG. I promise you haven’t been awake for 11 months. Your brain is tricking you. This could be sleep state misperception or paradoxical insomnia.

@Koa
England?

Well, it’s physically impossible, so you’re misleading yourself.

Are you not even a bit tired? Never?

Paradoxical insomnia happens a lot. You’re still alive.

I’m struggling to believe that, I’m sorry.

How many hours do you sleep?

I don’t sleep.

This sounds awful… I’m really sorry. I hope you find answers here. How are you spending all this time awake? What do you do to pass the time? Have you thought about recording yourself for a day?

Just sitting around doing not much, taking walks with pain, and using sleep apps.

@Kingsley
You really need to get out more. Go to the gym and push through the pain; it won’t change if you don’t. Take long walks or run until you’re exhausted, and then you’ll likely sleep. Maybe join a yoga class to help with pain. Sitting around all day makes it worse. You also need to find a good doctor. ER visits won’t help much. They’ll likely give you some diazepam and send you home. You need to look for a good doctor; there’s a big difference between average and excellent ones—ERs are not meant to treat rare sleep disorders. If you mention feeling suicidal at the ER, they will send you to an inpatient facility for monitoring, but they may not help with your sleep issues there. Talk to a doctor or find a great one to consider using doxepin. Doxepin can help keep you asleep at night and works well. You could try taking doxepin along with a muscle relaxer like cyclobenzaprine and melatonin. In legal states, they sell CBD/THC drinks, and a small sip can help you feel sleepy. With doxepin, hopefully, you’ll get some rest.

Have you had blood work done to check what’s going on?
